Reassurance shield after the business loop rejoins
Location: SH-13 and Cemetery Rd, Idaho Cty
Reassurance shield as we head out of Kooskia. Idaho recently phased out their brown shields for scenic routes, and almost completely re-signed Idaho 13. When heading out of town, the new policy is to just mark the byway with the byway sign, and then put a little banner on top with the “America’s Byways” logo or an “Idaho Byway” logo. Bummer.
Location: Main St and North St, Stites
A couple miles later, we’ll enter Stites. Now is as good a time to mention as any that this road sucks. It’s really narrow and windy and during the summer there’s a ton of traffic, so it’ll take a while to get to Grangeville

Rare leftover brown shield as we make our way through the forest
Location: SH-13 and Wall Creek Rd, Harpster, Idaho Cty
A few miles later, we’ll enter the unincorporated community of Harpster. It should be noted that the teal Honda in front of me is among the most obnoxious cars I have ever encountered. He tailgates, his speed varies like hell, he swerves all over the road, and while he seems to want to pass he never passes (not that there are many good opportunities on this road). I’m posting these photos 6 months after the drive, and I still remember that car well.
Location: SH-13 and SH-14, Idaho Cty
A few miles later, we’ll come to a junction with Idaho 14. Follow 14 towards Elk City and 13 towards Grangeville
Location: SH-13 and SH-14, Idaho Cty
Keep left for SH-14 and right for SH-13
Location: SH-13 and SH-14, Idaho Cty
Turn left for Idaho 14, a rare spur route in Idaho that goes to Elk City and dies. Keep straight for SH-13 towards Grangeville
