Wyoming Highway 789, WYO 173 to US-20/US-26

AMP: 129

Location: US-20 and Buffalo Creek Rd, Hot Springs Cty

No reassurance shield after the turn, but we’re about to enter the Wind River Canyon, which is Wyoming’s only real canyon drive-stretch with any good chunk of water. It’s only about 20 miles long.

AMP: 101

Location: Idaho St and Cary Dr, Shoshoni

And…we enter Shoshoni after we pop out of the canyon

AMP: 100

Location: Idaho St and 2nd St, Shoshoni

And we come to a junction with US-26 with no advance signage. WYO 789 will pass US-20 on to US-26 (US-20 doesn’t get to be alone until east of Lusk, 20 miles west of Nebraska), rejoining that route for the first time since about 40 miles west of Idaho Falls ID, and WYO 789 will take westbound 26 down into Riverton. The drive to Casper on 20/26 is the most boring but highly trafficked road I’ve ever been on..I mean…hell, it’s 100 miles to the next state highway junction and it’s flat! That can’t be good, right?
