As we enter Custer State Park, we’re told to pull into a pay station. Pardon the blurriness, but the sign says “Non-stop traffic on [US 16A] exempt”- so if you drive through it’s free, although it’s hard not to stop when all the tourists stop every time they see a buffalo. Such is the fun of Great Plains/Rocky Mountain state/national parks.

Follow 87 South towards Hot Springs and 87 North/16A east towards Rapid City
